MVCA Curriculum
Philosophy of MVCA on Curriculum
At MVCA we utilize Texas State Standards for our benchmarks due to Texas not using Common Core as the basis of their standards. This means that our “curriculum” is not determined simply by the textbook being used. The curriculum is viewed as the full range of resources that are used by the teachers to ensure each child learns the standards for their grade level. This means a textbook is simply a resource and we very rarely go from beginning to end through a single textbook, but instead add from other sources and materials to maximize learning. For more specific information about the different levels of math, elective courses, and curriculum related to those; or if you have any other questions, please feel free to call or set up an appointment to visit the school and we would love to share with you why we believe standards based learning will serve our children better over their lifetimes. please feel free to contact us at any time!
Bible
Bibles based on BJU Press in the K-6th grade classes. In addition, 5th through 8th grade students read through the entire Bible utilizing the Immerse Reading Bible. In High School, students take an Old Testament & New Testament Survey course, Systematic Theology, and an Apologetics course. Our goal is to ensure every student has a deep understanding of the Bible as the Word of God and is able to apply a biblical worldview to daily life.
Social Studies
Our primary resources are BJU Press & supplements provided by the Teacher. In 4th & 8th Grade we utilize a specific Montana State History (deviating from the TX State Standards) to meet our students needs here in Montana.
Science
Our primary resource is BJU Press and supplements. Throughout, MVCA will teach evolution theory and specifically the problems/challenges to the theory. At all grade levels, grade level appropriate experiments and occasional field trips are utilized to provide in depth understanding of the scientific method and specific material.
English
Our primary resources are BJU Press & supplements provided by the Teacher. We hold reading in high regard and every year have a Read-a-thon fundraiser; in High School students will study American and British Literature as well.
Math
Our primary resources are BJU Press & supplements provided by the Teacher. Highlighting the precision and order of mathematical systems as direct support to the design of our Universe by God, MVCA teaches through Pre-Calculus math classes and encourages Dual Enrollment for those students seeking higher level math.
